I just bought the "kill the light" tune from itunes and it got me thinking ... how much do you actually make from each song? I suspect it is negligible.

So my question is, how much freedom do you have to sell your own music directly? Do you still need a label and someone else controlling decisions and how you sell your music? If you didn't, that would be freedom ... complete control of every piece in the value chain.

PS. Kill the lights is really awesome!! I hope it does very well for you!

Have you ever considered licensing your music under a free license? (Or, maybe you're already doing so?) Written on the topic at all? I'm interested to hear your thoughts on free culture, haven't been able to find anything with a search.
