i came across this interesting picture, http://tinyurl.com/5p4r6b, where everything is mashing up. ;)

watching all this also makes me thinking of cultural pluralism whether do we all still appreciate it.

I admit I don't get you tube. My daughter's often will show me different ones that they find though and I sit and watch with them, Isabelle has in particular showed me some very moving ones, but has never really connected upstairs with me what the draw is. This has certainly opened up my mind and I realized the importnace of being in the loop. I can't answer your question as usual but you know my daughter's did the Free Hugs at (high)school and it was met with 95% positive responses. A few weeks later, "Mom, we nearly got kicked out of the mall".

"Good grief, why".

We had a poster board up offering everyone Free Hugs.

Of course that met with a discussion.

But it is interesting, two different environments, same action, two differnt responses.

What the main thing is I learned is that I need to refocus my attention in regards to what is going on around me, unwind a bit, quit minimizing it's impact, and make some changes. Maybe someday I will get it...maybe even i will dance on you tube...

The question should be: Why is it okay for some people to be creative and not others??! I thought this blog was about sharing?

i thought i'd make it through a few minutes of this video, but instead also found myself sucked in and watching the whole thing. which then led me on a youtube odyssey that ended at this clip of someone getting up and dancing in front of their webcam to one of your songs.... :)

where will we end up, indeed...

Thanks for sharing that! It was a really interesting take on the role of new media. I love the idea of media as something that mediates human relationships and think it is especially poignant to those on the fringe of "live" communities.

People like Amanda Baggs who was diagnosed with a severe form of Autism yet was able to explain her world as she sees it in this self made video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnylM1hI2jc

Amanda uses youtube and her blog(http://ballastexistenz.autistics.org/) to form a community that would be challenging for her to interact with in person and to form an identity completely separate from the one she can convey in person.

Obviously this is an extreme example of the concepts in the video but, interestly enough, she has a happy dance video posted as well. So I guess she's not that different after all!

I found this video to be very interesting David! I watched it in its entirety and was intrigued the entire time. Youtube and the online media culture have allowed ordinary people to become creative and give voice where no other medium has thouroughly allowed on a daily basis.

As for your question, I believe the impact will be greater than we can imagine. It will enable us to see outside our small personal world and form a greater understanding of the human mind. Can we go too far? I believe when the negatives outweigh the positives humans have a way of creating/innovating new ways to shift the scale. I believe our culture will be quicker at learning what does and doesn't work because of data collected on the internet.

Wow! Powerful stuff :-) More to come.
